Do you have “IT” for ACTING or any career?
ENTERTAINMENT BIZ? TEACHING? THERAPIST? DOCTOR? CHEF?
do you have IT???
I have been very fortunate to have a history of entertainment in my family. I was raised on the Jersey Shore back in the 1800’s (not quite but it feels that way!!). When I was in high school (started in NJ, ended in Arizona), if you would have EVER EVER EVER told me I was gonna end up doing TV shows, being part of a movie or two, living in the entertainment capitol of the US (West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Hollywood) I wudda told you, you were NUTS. I was gonna be an Orthodontist, and have a business of some sort too. My BA degree was in Business Adm and Economics, with minor in Science and Math (so I could do the dental school thing.). Well, NICHT, that went its own way.
I have been working in Beverly Hills for 30 years and have lived in West Hollywood (WeHo) for 30 years now. I have many entertainment friends in my cell phone contacts that folks from all over the US would give a lot to have access to, to talk to with, or to have spent time with. I have been very fortunate.
Plus my Great Aunts were ZIEGFELD FOLLIES performers back when NYC theatre was just getting rolling in the 1920’s. When Broadway was just becoming Broadway as NYC moved north from the Battery area. Now, thanks to the internet, I have found them as “principals” in many shows in the 1920’s, often with folks in their chorus’ or dance lines who later got to be known in their own as STARS like WC Fields and Will Rogers!! Ironically my great grandfather was a Byzantine Catholic Priest. They were allowed to marry in Austro-Hungary then. He married a Russian lady, had four babies and came to the US in 1900. 3 of those 4 babes (all girls) went on the stage. The fourth refused to perform, and got married, had my mother and the rest is history… See my book coming out next year, “Alcoholic Parents never die, they Lie in their GRAVES waiting for YOU.”…
BUT, my specialty now as a shrink (psychotherapist) is Court ordered Domestic Violence Batterer’s. Being in Beverly Hills most of my clientele are in International Biz or the Entertainment Biz. The building I have my office in happens to have been built by D.W.Griffith, who in 1915 put Hollywood on the Map with “Birth of a Nation” and “Intolerance” – major films, controversial, but helped establish HOLLYWOOD as the film capitol as it moved west from Thomas Edison’s studios in NJ. One of the folks I met in the building, Mel, was the producer of the AWESOME “Willie Wonka” movie with Gene Wilder. When young future actors, directors, writers, et al would come to visit me, and see his name – if they knew movie history – they wanted to meet him. From our talks and visits, I put together, the attached Power Point, DO YOU HAVE IT? AND YES, it works for ALL careers. Take a few minutes to flip through it as you choose your career, or even venture into a new one. Thanks for stopping by…, dr g.
